‘The Unseen Exists and Has Qualities’ represents shelter, food, energy, trade and the economy. It refers to the waste and mismanagement of the natural environment. The construction of the piece is inspired by Mudejar period architecture and design in Granada. The proposal includes an excavation, construction of a mud wall, pottery, pit kilns and erosion. The process requires earth, water, smoke, ashes, fire and rivers, elements which throughout history have been associated with the mystical and represent the transition from one state to another. It is about building a new notion of human ecology.
